2020 has been a year unlike any in recent memory. Global pandemics, tumultuous shifts in the economy, quarantines, and many other factors have dominated not only the headlines but our lives as well. We are all learning to live in the new realities that this year has presented us. Shifts in the way that people buy and what they buy a causing companies to reevaluate their product offerings, their supply chain, and their distribution models.
Harley-Davidson has made news over the last year or so on how they are going about meeting these new demands. The way that everyone has gone about business took a drastically different turn when the COVID-19 crisis came on the scene. Harley-Davidson went through a major shift in not only its leadership structure but its business model as well. Part of this new direction has included not only the streamlining of its product offering, but also the size of its dealer network. As such, H-D is working toward a major reduction in the number of dealerships. Every major metro market area is going through an evaluation to see how it can most efficiently serve its customers.
Part of the strategy of the dealer network realignment is to drastically reduce if not eliminate the number of “secondary retail locations”.
These SRL’s are satellite stores off of a main store. As the result of the Memphis Metro market study, we have made the difficult decision to do our part in this strategy and close our Collierville location and consolidate our Memphis area operations at our Whitten Road store. We will close the store on or before October 31.
While we are obviously disappointed in the necessity of such action, we are also encouraged by the bold direction that Harley-Davidson is taking. Our collective futures will require efficiency and exemplary service.
The reduction in the number of motorcycles being produced not only necessitated the actions, but it also will bolster the value of the motorcycles already in the marketplace. Harley-Davidson is a premium brand and a premium ownership experience. Through this consolidation, we truly feel that we will be able to up our game and deliver on both of those points even better.
We will always cherish our time in Collierville and we appreciate everyone that has been a part of a really good run. That said, we don’t want you to worry. Our relationship with you is not coming to an end. It’s our intention to continue to deliver our promise and mission to our Collierville clientele. It’s our goal to ensure that the overwhelming majority of your favorite team members will still be serving you from our consolidated location on Whitten. We will do whatever it takes to continue to serve you. Our pick-up and delivery service will ensure that we are doing what we can to be convenient for you.
In the meantime, we are still open for business. The consolidation will take time and while we might not have all the answers to your questions, rest assured that we will be working hard to address them all. Until then, continue to ride safely and thank you for your continued patronage and loyalty to Bumpus Harley-Davidson.
The Bumpus Family and Team.
